For walkers there are a number of beautiful National Park trails in the area, featuring different types of rainforest and beach trails.
One walk starting at South Mission is called the Kennedy Track, which features secluded beaches, coastal views and lowland rainforest. You can pick up a map of walking tracks from reception.
From the closest beach to Sanctuary (Brooks Beach), you can follow the beach to the far end and take a short rainforest track across to Bingil Bay, at the end of that beach it will take you to the entrance of Clump Mountain National Park. The lovely, very scenic rainforest walk up Bicton Hill, begins here and takes you to the lookout over the coast of Mission Beach and the surrounding islands. This trail climbs up a hill but the track meanders making it quite gentle. The rainforest trails within the Sanctuary nature reserve are relatively shorter and steeper.
Dunk Island (a short distance off shore) is a worthy day trip with great walking trails, views along the coastline and secluded beaches and coves.
